Recap: Burlington Cougars vs. Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates
The Burlington Cougars's and the Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates's match on Friday was close at halftime, but the Burlington Cougars turned on the heat in the second half with 34 points. Burlington blew past Genoa-Hugo/Karval 72-48. With that win, Burlington brought their scoring average up to 51.4 points per game.
Leading Burlington to victory were Keziah Williams and Daniel Chacon. Williams scored 26 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Chacon dropped a double-double on 20 points and 21 rebounds. Williams continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Adan Lopez-Mitchell was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Despite the loss, Genoa-Hugo/Karval still got an impressive performance from Trey Smith, who scored 26 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Dane Lockhart, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Burlington's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points per game. As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Burlington will head out on the road to face off against Flagler at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Genoa-Hugo/Karval won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cheyenne Wells at 4:00 p.m. on January 20th. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cheyenne Wells has six straight wins, Genoa-Hugo/Karval has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
