Basketball Recap: Lamont Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lamar over Great Falls

Lamar lost against Great Falls back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Lamar Silver Foxes fell to the Great Falls Red Devils 48-44. While losing is never fun, the Silver Foxes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while the Red Devils are ranked 99th).

Lamar's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lamont Williams, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. Williams has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more rebounds the last 15 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of NyShaun 'Shaun' Quillen, who posted 11 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Lamar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 22 consecutive matches.

Lamar's record is now 9-15. As for Great Falls, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lamar will square off against Governor's School for Science & Math at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lamar is facing Governor's School for Science & Math at the right time seeing as Governor's School for Science & Math is stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Great Falls, they will take on Lewisville at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Lewisville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Great Falls likes a good challenge.
