Basketball Recap: Sumner Takes a Loss

If Sumner was riding high fresh off their 52-27 takedown of Kentridge last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sumner Spartans fell to the Emerald Ridge Jaguars 53-48. That makes it the first time this season the Spartans have let down their home crowd.

Despite the loss, Sumner still got an impressive performance from Olivia M Collins, who posted 20 points and seven boards. That was a full 41.7% of Sumner's points, marking the third time in a row M Collins has had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kawehi Borden, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Sumner's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 20-4. As for Emerald Ridge, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-6.

Sumner wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-41 win against Skyview on the 19th. As for Emerald Ridge, they have also already played their next game, a 57-27 loss against Auburn on the 19th.
