Basketball Recap: Gulf Pointe Latin Piles Up the Points Against South Baldwin Christian Academy

Gulf Pointe Latin's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the South Baldwin Christian Academy Knights 56-19. The Gladiators have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 24 points or more this season.

Gulf Pointe Latin was led to victory by Rebekah Thompson and Kaitlyn Lothringer. Thompson went 10 of 15 en route to 22 points, while Lothringer went 6 for 12 on her way to 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Thompson a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Sarah Litz, who posted eight points and six boards.

Gulf Pointe Latin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive matchups.

Gulf Pointe Latin is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.9 points per game. As for South Baldwin Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gulf Pointe Latin will face off against West Florida Baptist Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Florida Baptist Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Gulf Pointe Latin likes a good challenge. As for South Baldwin Christian Academy, they will square off against Atmore Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
