5A Region III District 22 recap Sept. 26, 2012
South Houston was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in 5A Region III District 22.
The Trojans moved up to 638 from 794 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league.
Manvel's Shane McCarley and Carlos Thompson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. McCarley has thrown for 867 yards this season, while Thompson, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 15 catches for 299 yards. Pasadena Memorial's Reggie Turner leads the league in rushing yards with 524.
A big matchup in 5A Region III District 22 this week will be when the Mavericks take on the Mavericks. At the moment, Manvel is in fourth, while Pasadena Memorial is in first.
There should be lots of points scored when Kirk Martin's team and Chris Quillian's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Mavericks comes in having scored 126 this season, while the Mavericks have scored 118.
Sam Rayburn took down Northbrook 30-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
