Baseball Recap: Mayfield Takes a Loss

Mayfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against the Middleburgh Knights, falling 14-2. The Panthers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Knights from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Cubby Roth (C) was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. Roth (C) is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Benjamin Wicklund also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Mayfield's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Middleburgh, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mayfield will square off against rival Canajoharie at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Middleburgh is set to challenge their familiar foe Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
