Baseball Recap: Pender Takes a Loss

Pender was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the East Bladen Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-3 on Thursday.

Tyler Conger put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases.

In other batting news, Darius Bowen made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

Pender's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for East Bladen, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pender will challenge Hobbton at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Pender's pitchers better be ready for this one: Hobbton has averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season. As for East Bladen, they will take on Heide Trask at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Heide Trask has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.58 runs per game on average), something East Bladen will no doubt try to take advantage of.
