Recap: Sheldon Panthers vs. Jefferson Independent Day Cavaliers
The Sheldon Panthers's game on Thursday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against Jefferson Independent Day by a score of 55-43. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 18 to 7 on the offensive boards, as Sheldon did.
Sheldon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aiden Bogart, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 22 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bogart has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Riley Chapman, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Jefferson Independent Day saw an underclassman step up: Jack Twiss scored 16 points along with five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Spencer Long, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Sheldon's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-5. As for Jefferson Independent Day, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.
Sheldon will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Liberal at 7:00 p.m. Liberal is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Jefferson Independent Day, they will square off against St. Mary's-Colgan at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Mary's-Colgan's defense has only allowed 29.4 points per game this season, so Jefferson Independent Day's offense will have their work cut out for them.
