Softball Game Preview: Locke Saints vs. King/Drew Golden Eagles

Locke is 0-7 against King/Drew since May of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Saints will be playing in front of their home fans against the Golden Eagles at 2:30 p.m. Locke has given up an average of 13.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Locke is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Friday. They lost 15-4 to Discovery.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, King/Drew made sure to put some runs up on the board against Dorsey on Monday. The Golden Eagles put the hurt on the Dons with a sharp 15-1 victory.

Jordan Garcia made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Xeniya Anderson was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Leilani Arauz, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

King/Drew was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

King/Drew's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-14. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Locke, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.

Locke suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to King/Drew when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Saints avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
