Softball Recap: Brockport Blue Devils vs. Churchville-Chili Saints
Brockport had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it six. They came up short against the Churchville-Chili Saints, falling 11-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-0 back in April.
As for Churchville-Chili, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.
For Churchville-Chili's part, Jordan Sassone was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 6.2 innings pitched. Sassone has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Malena Leastman was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cassidy Wilt, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Coming up, Brockport will head out to take on Canandaigua Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Devils are facing the Braves at the right time seeing as the Braves are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. Churchville-Chili does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
