Baseball Recap: Tustin Gets the Win

After losing to Segerstrom the last time they met, Tustin decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Tillers had just enough and edged out the Jaguars 5-4 on Friday. That's two games straight that the Tillers have won by just one run.

Jeffery Nesmith looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jacob Policare was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Benally, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Tustin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The last time their batting average was this high was was before the start of last season.

Tustin's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-13-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Segerstrom, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.

Tustin didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 2-1 victory against Fullerton on the 15th. As for Segerstrom, they have also already played their next game, a 3-2 win against Orange on the 12th.
