Basketball Recap: Montville Gets the Win

Montville took a 23-point loss the last time they faced off against Mountain Lakes, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Montville Mustangs skirted past the Mountain Lakes Lakers 52-50. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Lakers are ranked 266th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

The victory made it two in a row for Montville and bumps their season record up to 17-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.5 points over those games. As for Mountain Lakes, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.

Montville and Mountain Lakes are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Montville will square off against River Dell on Wednesday. River Dell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.3 points per game this season. As for Mountain Lakes, they will face off against Park Ridge on Wednesday.
