Baseball Recap: Southmont Comes Up Short

Southmont extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They lost 8-2 to the Clinton Prairie Gophers. If the Mounties were looking for revenge after losing 12-2 to the Gophers when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Dean McGaughey made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Clinton Prairie, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. That's two games straight that they have won by exactly six runs.

On Clinton Prairie's side, the team relied heavily on Kye Jacobs, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Luke Harshbarger, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Southmont will challenge Cascade at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Clinton Prairie, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Frankfort at 11:00 a.m.
