Baseball Game Preview: Hooks Hornets vs. De Kalb Bears

The Hooks Hornets will face off against the De Kalb Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Friday just wasn't the day for Hooks' offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Redwater on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Hornets' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, De Kalb posted their closest win since February 27th on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Queen City 7-5. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.

Cortlen White was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. White was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Salinas, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaylen White, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

De Kalb's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hooks, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.
