League recap: Romeoville stuns Plainfield South in upset

Southwest Prairie recap October 1, 2013

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Romeoville, who defeated 85th ranked Plainfield South, 34-7. Kelvin Jones threw for 96 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win.

The Spartans' Miguel Ford recorded the longest rushing play in Southwest Prairie this season in his game against the Cougars last week. Ford ran for 75 yards on the play and finished with 163 on the day as his team beat Plainfield South.

Steven Frank threw for 243 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Cameron Dirck was a key player and the best on defense this week as Minooka lost to Plainfield East. The 5-foot-8 defensive back pulled down 2 interceptions.

Ford was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 163 yards on 21 carries as Jeff Kuna's team topped Oswego East. Teammate Gill Whitaker added to the ground attack by rushing for 115 yards.

The leading receiver in the league this season is Charles Hunter. The Romeoville star has 19 catches for 358 yards.

The Panthers' offense has recorded 168 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Bengals have permitted only 86 on the year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Oswego takes on Plainfield East. As it stands, Brian Cooney's team is in fifth, while the Bengals are in first.

The Spartans moved up to 116 from 174 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Southwest Prairie. Romeoville was able to move up by topping Ken Bublitz's team 34-7.
