Preview: Wilson Prep Tigers vs. North Moore Mustangs
Wilson Prep is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while North Moore is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Wilson Prep Tigers will take on the North Moore Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Wilson Prep walked away with it. They blew past Weldon 50-8 at home. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 22-0.
Wilson Prep's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Xavier Williams, who rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries, and Khamani Barnes, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Barnes was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards. Christian Richardson was another key contributor, rushing for 108 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Wilson Prep's defense and their four sacks. Weldon's QB won't forget Joshua Jordan anytime soon given Jordan sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, North Moore took their game at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 58-20 win over Bertie.
North Moore's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Colby Pennington led the charge by rushing for 57 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, while also catching a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Nathan Rogers, who rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.
Their wins bumped Wilson Prep to 10-1 and North Moore to 10-2.
