Basketball Recap: Crooms Academy Takes a Loss

If Crooms Academy was feeling good fresh off their 67-46 takedown of Orlando Science last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Crooms Academy Panthers were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 58-57 to the Holy Cross Lutheran Academy Crusaders. The Panthers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Crooms Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kenai Anderson dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Anderson's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Gill, who went 9 of 22 on his way to 20 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Crooms Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 23 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Crooms Academy's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8. As for Holy Cross Lutheran Academy, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 3-4 record.

Crooms Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-47 loss against Mount Dora on the 30th. Holy Cross Lutheran Academy has also already played their next contest, a 72-50 defeat against Orangewood Christian on the 30th.
