Baseball Game Preview: Goshen Central Gladiators vs. Beacon Bulldogs

The Goshen Central Gladiators will venture away from home to face off against the Beacon Bulldogs at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Goshen Central lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Valley Central, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's matchup. The Gladiators were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Vikings on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Gladiators.

Alex Cione made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Noel Irizarry was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Grant Musson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Goshen Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in six consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Beacon strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Chester 11-1.

Goshen Central's record now sits at 2-0. As for Beacon, their record is now 3-0.

Goshen Central couldn't quite finish off Beacon when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Gladiators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
