Basketball Game Preview: First Presbyterian Day Vikings vs. Stratford Academy Eagles

First Presbyterian Day and Stratford Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2021, but not for long. The First Presbyterian Day Vikings will square off against the Stratford Academy Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. First Presbyterian Day will be strutting in after a victory while Stratford Academy will be coming in after a loss.

First Presbyterian Day is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Piedmont Academy 69-47 on Monday. The win was some much needed relief for the Vikings as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak.

It was another big night for Jones Handberry, who went 11 for 17 en route to 33 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gray Gleaton, who posted 12 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Stratford Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 63-62 to Tattnall Square Academy.

Stratford Academy's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 16-5. As for First Presbyterian Day, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 4-14.

First Presbyterian Day was taken down by Stratford Academy 81-31 in their previous meeting on January 9th. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point First Presbyterian Day was down 43-15.
