Softball Game Preview: College Place Hawks vs. McLoughlin Pioneers

The College Place Hawks will challenge the McLoughlin Pioneers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. College Place is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.8 runs per game this season.

It was a Battle of the Birds when College Place duked it out with Elma on Saturday. The Hawks came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 13-8.

Anna Ortega spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Adrienne Berube, who went 3-for-4 with one home run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kenadie Schreindl, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

College Place was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, McLoughlin's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 6-1 to Nyssa.

College Place's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for McLoughlin, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2.

College Place might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from McLoughlin in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
