Basketball Recap: Mahnomen/Waubun Comes Up Short

Mahnomen/Waubun lost against Fertile-Beltrami back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds received a blow as they fell 72-53 to the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Thunderbirds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 343rd, while the Falcons are ranked 91st).

Mahnomen/Waubun's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Fertile-Beltrami, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. It'll be Battle of the Birds when the Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds take on the Sacred Heart Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Fertile-Beltrami, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against East Grand Forks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Fertile-Beltrami's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
