Softball Recap: Norton Comes Up Short

Norton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Coventry Comets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Comets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 back in April.

Alyssa Messer put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Addison Calo and Gianna Calhoun stepped up to the plate in a big way. Calo went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Calhoun went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Tatum Harris, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs.

Norton's record is now 11-8. As for Coventry, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Norton will welcome East at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dragons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.6 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Coventry, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Streetsboro at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
