Baseball Recap: Spring Mills Has No Trouble Against Martinsburg

Spring Mills hadn't done well against Martinsburg recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Cardinals blew past the Bulldogs 8-2. Considering the Cardinals have won 15 matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Bradley Butts tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Spring Mills saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trestyn Wysocki, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another was Bryce Anders, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Spring Mills is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Martinsburg, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-12 record this season.

Martinsburg will be playing in front of their home fans against GVCS Broadfording at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Spring Mills will be paying especially close attention to the Bulldogs' matchup: after the Bulldogs face off against University, they'll take on Spring Mills again at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
