Basketball Recap: Gilman City Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Victory

Gilman City had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They came out on top against the Grundy County/Newtown-Harris Panthers by a score of 47-35. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 40-38 last Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Grundy County/Newtown-Harris had strong showings from Kinsley Allnutt, who posted 15 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals, and Leeseah Fordyce, who had seven points and five steals. Allnutt's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points.

Gilman City's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Grundy County/Newtown-Harris, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gilman City will face off against Mercer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mercer will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Gilman City surely won't give up without a fight. As for Grundy County/Newtown-Harris, they will take on Tri-County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grundy County/Newtown-Harris is facing Tri-County at the right time seeing as Tri-County is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
