Basketball Recap: Preslei Lazzell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Covington over North Vermillion

Covington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a 60-43 bruising from the North Vermillion Falcons. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 46-32 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Covington lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Preslei Lazzell, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards gave Lazzell a new career-high. Peyton Brown was another key player, going 5 of 10 en route to 14 points and three steals.

Nora Thomann was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 16 rebounds for North Vermillion. Thomann is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Kayanna Smith, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 12 points.

Covington's defeat dropped their record down to 4-17. As for North Vermillion, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-7.

Covington wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 45-37 loss against North Newton on the 25th. North Vermillion has also already played their next match, a 53-29 defeat against North Central on the 25th.
