Palmer takes loss despite strong efforts from Leah Martinez and Alexa Stevens

Recap: Palmer Terrors vs. Coronado Cougars

The Palmer Terrors were the 46-35 winner over the Coronado Cougars when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Palmer took a 50-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Coronado. Palmer has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Palmer's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alexa Stevens, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Leah Martinez who scored 12 points along with four steals. Martinez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Ridgeway, who scored eight points along with two blocks.

Even though they lost, Palmer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coronado only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.

It was another big night for Dayshanay Bruner, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds for Coronado. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Bruner has scored at least a third of Coronado's points. Astoria Spradlin was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.

Palmer's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Coronado, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palmer will challenge Pueblo Centennial at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Coronado, they will head out on the road to challenge Elizabeth at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
