Basketball Recap: Harding County Takes a Loss

Harding County lost against Lemmon back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Harding County Ranchers took a hard 58-43 fall against the Lemmon Cowboys. While losing is never fun, the Ranchers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Cowboys are ranked 16th).

Despite the loss, Harding County still got an impressive performance from Evan Meyer, who went 7 for 9 on his way to 16 points in addition to eight boards and five assists. Those 16 points gave Meyer a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cohen Smith, who posted 13 points and six rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Harding County and nudges their season record down to 3-4. As for Lemmon, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Harding County will take on New England at 7:00 p.m. on January 28th. As for Lemmon, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Herreid/Selby at 1:00 p.m. on February 1st.
