Baseball Recap: Kelloggsville Comes Up Short

Kelloggsville extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-23 in the process. They lost 17-0 to the Godwin Heights Wolverines. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, with their most recent defeat being a 15-5 loss on Thursday.

As for Godwin Heights, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games.

For Godwin Heights' part, Hendry Arciniega made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. Arciniega has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Johnny Fontanez, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Higino Rolon was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Coming up, Kelloggsville will head out on the road to face off against South Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sailors have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Godwin Heights, they will be playing at home against Comstock Park at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
