Softball Recap: Florida Christian Takes Down King's Academy in a Playoff Battle

Florida Christian had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the King's Academy Lions on Wednesday. The win was familiar territory for the Patriots, who have now won four matches in a row.

Serena Gillen looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Charlee Arana, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Danbee Kim, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Florida Christian's victory bumped their record up to 18-8. As for King's Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-7 record this season.

Florida Christian will square off against John Carroll Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight. King's Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
