Softball Recap: Nocona Snags 12th Win in Last 13 Games

The Nocona Indians made easy work of the Chico Dragons on Friday and carried off a 14-4 win. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Skye Kirby and Kylea Wallace did most of the damage at the plate: Kirby went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs, while Wallace scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave Wallace a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Tiffner, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Nocona always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chico only posted an OBP of .360.

Nocona is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 6.69 strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.2 in the others. Chico's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-10.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Nocona will face off against rival Lindsay at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Chico is set to square off against their familiar foe Alvord at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
