Volleyball Recap: Utica Victorious

Utica won the last time they faced Mt. Vernon and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Redskins walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Yellowjackets. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Redskins.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 18-25, 25-11, 25-16.

Macie Ellis paced Utica's offense, picking up 16 kills. Ellis got some help from Leigha Burnett and her 38 assists. Ellis also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Penelope Karas, each putting up two.

Despite the loss, Mt. Vernon had strong showings from Callie Swanson, who had 17 assists and three digs, and Addison Komitau, who had 21 assists and eight digs. Swanson has been hot, having posted 12 or more assists the last eight times she's played.

Utica's win bumped their record up to 16-3. As for Mt. Vernon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Utica has already played their next match, a 3-1 defeat against Newark Catholic on the 2nd. As for Mt. Vernon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Zanesville on the 2nd.
