Basketball Recap: Tuba City Beats Valley Christian for Their Second Straight Victory

If Valley Christian wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Tuba City, they should've done a better job of containing Layla Curtis. The Warriors walked away with a 76-65 win over the Trojans on Saturday thanks in part to Curtis, who almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine boards. Her big performance that morning made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 21 points.

Valley Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Abby Grier, who shot 42% from the field on her way to 23 points and seven rebounds. That was a full 35.4% of Valley Christian's points, marking the third time in a row Grier has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ellie Phillips, who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine assists.

The victory made it two in a row for Tuba City and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points over those games. As for Valley Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.

Tuba City wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 57-33 victory against Rio Rico on the 29th. As for Valley Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-55 win against Monument Valley on the 29th.
