Basketball Game Preview: Ulysses Tigers vs. Scott Beavers

The Ulysses Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Scott Beavers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Friday, Ulysses ended up a good deal behind Goodland and lost 62-47. The Tigers have struggled against the Cowboys recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, Scott had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They beat the Bluejays by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 53-28. Given the Beavers' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Bluejays are ranked 192nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ulysses better keep an eye on Jackson Rumford. He was instrumental in Scott's win, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. Rumford is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Radke, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds.

Scott's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. As for Ulysses, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Ulysses didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Scott when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 45-41 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ulysses since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
