For the first time this season, Torrance will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out to face off against the Redondo Union Sea Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Torrance is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
If Torrance beats Redondo Union with 35 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Tartars walked away with a 35-24 victory over El Segundo last Friday.
Torrance's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Vaughn Reinert, who rushed for 179 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Isaac Mora was in the mix too, providing the Tartars with two touchdowns.
Torrance's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. El Segundo's QB won't forget Elias Emerson anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Torrance got some further help from Jacob Gomez: he picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Redondo Union, as they earned their first away win of the season. They really took it to Banning for the full four quarters, racking up a 35-6 victory. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Sea Hawks had established a 22-point advantage.
Redondo Union's win came from a few key players Torrance will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Rocky Martinez, who rushed for 138 yards and one TD on only 12 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Christian Zeno, who gained 80 total yards and two touchdowns.
Redondo Union didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Blake Wunderli and Bryson Fowler. Wunderli got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-3. As for Torrance, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Torrance has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 163.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Redondo Union, though, as they've been averaging only 84.4 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Torrance took a serious blow against Redondo Union in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 35-7. Thankfully for the Tartars, Ethan Maleman (who rushed for 105 yards and three scores on only 12 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
