Softball Game Preview: Newington Nor'easters vs. Simsbury Trojans

The Newington Nor'easters will challenge the Simsbury Trojans at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Newington has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Newington is headed into the match having just posted their closest victory since May 13, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Lewis Mills 9-7. The win continues a trend for the Nor'easters in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won three in a row.

Abigail Greaves made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Greaves was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Stegmaier, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Maiya Simpson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Simsbury). They put the hurt on South Windsor with a sharp 20-4 victory on Wednesday.

The win got Simsbury back to even at 2-2. As for Newington, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
