Basketball Recap: Aiden O'leary's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Roane County over Alcoa

Roane County has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 86-73 to the Alcoa Tornadoes on Monday. If the Yellowjackets were looking for revenge after losing 70-58 to the Tornadoes when the teams met back in December of 2019, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Several Yellowjackets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aiden O'Leary, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 21 points in addition to six assists and three steals. The matchup was O'Leary's fourth in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Malachi Brown, who went 7-for-14 en route to 16 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Roane County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Roane County's defeat dropped their record down to 27-5. As for Alcoa, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season.

Roane County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Alcoa, they will square off against Hickman County at 7:15 p.m. on March 19th. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Hickman County comes in on 14 and Alcoa on five.
