Football Recap: Andrew 'AJ' Lopez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Otay Ranch over Grossmont + How To Watch

Otay Ranch was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 28-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Grossmont Foothillers. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Foothillers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Andrew 'AJ' Lopez, who threw for 213 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also punched in one rushing score. Jaidon Castillo helped Lopez out on the ground, rushing for 57 yards, while also catching one score.

AJ Hooker had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 129 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.2 yards per carry, and also catching one touchdown for Grossmont. Another player making a difference was Tyler Holmes, who threw for 129 yards and a pair of TDs.

Otay Ranch's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Grossmont, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Otay Ranch wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 35-31 victory against Olympian on the 26th. As for Grossmont, they have also already played their next contest, a 36-13 win against Mira Mesa on the 26th.
