Softball Recap: Mesilla Valley Christian School Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Mesilla Valley Christian School came tearing into Friday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the McCurdy Bobcats with a sharp 15-3 victory. The SonBlazers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

Maren Fiske was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Fiske was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Briley Eaton was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jacie Caldwell, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Mesilla Valley Christian School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .517 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Mesilla Valley Christian School pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for McCurdy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-17.

Looking ahead, Mesilla Valley Christian School will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Laguna Acoma at 11:00 a.m. The SonBlazers will need to watch out since the Hawks have now posted at least ten runs in their last six matchups. McCurdy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
