Football Recap: Martin Takes a Loss

Martin came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They were beaten by the Southwest Dragons 56-13. The Tigers have struggled against the Dragons recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Southwest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Austin Diggs led the charge by rushing for 126 yards and two scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Diggs a new career-high. Another rusher making a difference was Aadreaz Voss, who rushed for 83 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries.

Martin now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Southwest, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Coincidentally, Martin and Southwest will both be playing Southside the next time they take the field. The Tigers will host the Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Dragons will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on October 3.
