Baseball Recap: Southside's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pamlico County, Southside was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 victory over the Lejeune Devil Pups. The win was some much needed relief for the Seahawks as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Luke Bullock looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Southside is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Dexter Oden was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Alex Silva, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Southside's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-9. As for Lejeune, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Southside will square off against Greene Central at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lejeune will be paying especially close attention to the Seahawks' matchup: after the Seahawks faces off against the Rams, they'll take on Lejeune again at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
