Softball Recap: Brookfield Academy Extends Winning Streak to Four

Brookfield Academy had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Dominican Knights. For the Blue Knights, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win the Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Makenna Best made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Elisabeth Wilson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Olivia Schmidt, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Brookfield Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive games.

Brookfield Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Dominican, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Knights beat Brookfield Academy by a score of 20-0 later that day.
