Baseball Game Preview: Hattiesburg Tigers vs. Mize Bulldogs

The Hattiesburg Tigers will face off against the Mize Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hattiesburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Hattiesburg got the win against Poplarville by a conclusive 16-8. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Tyler Weatherspoon was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Hattiesburg's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Joe Polk, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Hattiesburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Poplarville only posted a batting average of .269.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mize ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top against Wayne County by a score of 5-4 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Trey Myers was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in doubles.

Mize is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. Hattiesburg now has a winning record of 6-5.
