Softball Recap: Avon Victorious

Avon had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 3-11 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the Brownsburg Bulldogs 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Orioles have posted since May 18, 2024.

Addie Forst spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits.

At the plate, Marlee Shisler was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Payton Kellermeier also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Avon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

As for Brownsburg, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss they have suffered since April 20, 2024.

On Brownsburg's side, Etta Schroering was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. Schroering has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tatum Hunt made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one double. Kensly Larkin was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon will square off against Cathedral at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Brownsburg, they will take on Ben Davis at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
