Softball Recap: Estancia Comes Up Short

Estancia had lost 17 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-16 to make it 18. They lost 20-1 to the Ocean View Seahawks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 15-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.

As for Ocean View, their record is now 8-13. Considering they have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Ocean View's part, Jennifer Ramirez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Ramirez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lexie Mayebo was incredible, firing off four doubles, five RBI, and one run while going 4-for-5. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. April Gil was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Estancia will head out to challenge Corona del Mar at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sea Kings have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Ocean View, they will venture away from home to square off against Calvary Chapel at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
