Baseball Recap: Eastern Comes Up Short

Eastern had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 7-13 to make it four. They came up short against the Christian Academy Warriors, falling 14-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Musketeers of the 14-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Christian Academy, the win got them back to even at 8-8. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Christian Academy's part, Jonah Whitehead was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Whitehead has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 2-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Danny McDonald, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Christian Academy: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Adrien Bryson was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one run.

Coming up, Eastern will take on Providence at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Musketeers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pioneers have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Christian Academy, they have already played their next matchup, a 17-7 defeat against Charlestown on the 23rd.
