Softball Recap: Bernalillo Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Bernalillo entered their tilt with Shiprock on Saturday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Chieftains 17-2. That's more bragging rights for the Spartans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Neiva Montoya was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ryanna Mortensen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Bernalillo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .727. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .568 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Bernalillo pushed their record up to 13-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Shiprock, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bernalillo will challenge Albuquerque Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.86 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Shiprock, they are taking a road trip to square off against Newcomb at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
