Softball Game Preview: Deering Rams vs. Cheverus Stags

Deering is 1-9 against Cheverus since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Rams will square off against the Stags at 4:30 p.m. Deering has given up an average of 15.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Deering fell victim to Bonny Eagle and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 11-0 to the Scots.

Meanwhile, Cheverus had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They never let the Eagles get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The Stags' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.

Not much got past Addison DeRoche, who gave up just two hits and racked up 17 Ks to keep Windham off the board. DeRoche has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cameron Gagnon was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Abby Kelly was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Deering's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Cheverus, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.

Deering suffered a grim 21-2 defeat to Cheverus in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
