Desert Edge barely beat North Canyon the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Desert Edge Scorpions blew past the North Canyon Rattlers 15-8 on Thursday. The Scorpions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by seven runs or more this season.
Aliyah Fatigoni (2027) made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off 13 hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, Desert Edge got a massive performance out of Gwen Alvarez (2026), who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Leila Taylor (2027) was another key player, scoring three runs while going 4-for-5.
Desert Edge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Canyon only posted an OBP of .343.
The win got Desert Edge back to even at 5-5. As for North Canyon, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Desert Edge will take on Chaparral at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Chaparral is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season. As for North Canyon, they will face off against Kellis at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Kellis has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.43 runs per game on average), something North Canyon will no doubt try to take advantage of.
