Basketball Game Preview: Hollins Royals vs. Lakewood Spartans

Hollins is 0-10 against Lakewood since November of 2014 but things could change on Thursday. The Hollins Royals will be playing at home against the Lakewood Spartans at 8:00 p.m. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Summer Morgan and Sumayah McIntosh.

Hollins is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Boca Ciega and fell 62-24.

Despite the defeat, Hollins had strong showings from Morgan, who posted 12 points and four steals, and Cecilia Tith, who earned four points. Morgan has been hot for a while, having posted four or more steals the last nine times she's played.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lakewood, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 67-50 win over Venice on Wednesday. The Spartans pushed the score to 48-26 by the end of the third, a deficit the Indians cut but never quite recovered from.

Hollins better focus on containing Alahni Lovett and Jalainah Hunt as the pair were huge in Lakewood's win. Lovett put up 17 points, while Hunt had six points.

Lakewood pushed their record up to 9-6 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.5 points per game. As for Hollins, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.

Hollins took a serious blow against Lakewood in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 70-21. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hollins was down 65-16.
