Softball Game Preview: Mercy Jaguars vs. Jeffersontown Chargers

Mercy has gone 9-1 against Jeffersontown recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Jaguars will welcome the Chargers at 2:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Mercy came out on top against Fern Creek on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Jaguars took their contest against the Tigers 6-2. The win continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won five in a row.

The team relied heavily on Ava Reinhart, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Streble, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Jeffersontown hadn't done well against Spencer County recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Chargers put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 14-2 victory. Considering the Chargers have won five games by more than 11 runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The win made it two in a row for Jeffersontown and bumps their season record up to 5-9. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Mercy, their win bumped their record up to 15-11.

Everything went Mercy's way against Jeffersontown when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Mercy made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
